TAKE THE TIME TO WRITE
Getting your book published is a process. The first step in writing a book is creating the time to write. Many people because of their jobs, school, children, etc., say that they do not have the time to write.

My questions are: How can you earn a degree if you don’t go to school?
How can you complete a marathon if you don’t run? How can you conquer the world if you can’t conquer yourself? I guess you see my point! If you really have the passion to write a book, then you’ll find a way to fit writing into your schedule. There are no excuses. It was said in time past, “A fool can give an excuse quicker than seven wise men can give a reason.”

CONSISTENCY
Once you’ve created the time in your daily schedule to write, stay consistent. In the beginning don’t worry about the structure of your manuscript, let your pen flow. You can always come back and make the editorial adjustments. Most people write their story down on paper first. This is all right. When you have some down time you can type what you’ve written, or you can get someone to type it for you. Whatever you do, don’t stop writing until you are finished.

EDITING
When you have completed your story, now is the time to start the editing process (Break the story down into chapters, develop paragraph structure, make grammatical changes, make spelling corrections, and add or take out inappropriate text). Once you have done the basic editing, proofread your story to make sure it reads the way you want it to read.

Because it’s extremely hard to recognize your own mistakes, allow someone who is proficient in English to edit and proofread your story. Editing is one of the most important processes in writing a book. Without sound editing, your book will most certainly fall short of its potential.

COPYRIGHT
Once your story has been completed and you are satisfied with the editing, you should fill out a copyright form to put protection on your work. The copyright forms are the Form TX and the Short Form TX; either form is appropriate. Once you’ve completed either form, send it to the Library of Congress along with two copies of your manuscript and a $30.00 check or money order. This is to ensure that your manuscript is already in the process of being copy-written to protect it from would be plagiarizers.
